Welcome to the Manyatta Youth Resource Center (MYRC)!
The MYRC exists in order to increase opportunities for youth living in the manyatta slums to participate in both sports and perfoming arts.Kisumu city is home to manyatta ,the largest slum in western kenya,where over 60,000 people live in a five square mile ghetto and 50% of the population live on less than one dollar a day.1 in every 20 people living in manyatta has HIV/AIDS.The MYRC was created in order to support manyatta and kisumu youth.
Sports and perfoming arts are fun and empowering ways to promote youth and their talents,the MYRC provides safe spaces for youth to explore their interests and helps them create constructive leisure time activities.
The benefits of structure,youth mentorship,physical activity and education support today will help our members become strong citizens and leaders of kenya tomorrow.
The MYRC was certified as a community based organization(CBO) in july 2009 through the kenyan ministry of gender,chidren and social development in kisumu county and today we support over 120 u-12boys,u-14boys,u-16boys,u-18boys,u-14girls,u-18girls soccer players and several groups of performing artists including drama(stargaze theatrics) and two dance groups ie hotraxx dancers and transformer dancers.
To increase opportunities of youth and children living in kisumu county,kenya to participate in sporting activities and perfoming arts as a means of empowerment.
