Community Building

Hands-On Support

Feeding the Community

Another long-running success is our feeding program. Most Saturdays, the MYRC provides a tasty and nutritious meal for program participants and other community members. Our kids can count on that meal. It is also a time when our program participants can relax, chat, and bond with other kids and adults.

Community Clean-Up and Beautification

Our young people participate in tree planting and other community beautification efforts.

Food and Health Supply Distribution

As a trusted community group, we distributed food, water, and other supplies for government and other donors during the Covid pandemic. We also provide workshops for women where period supplies are provided.

Health Education

Health Workshops

Working with partner organizations, we hold workshops that educate our youth about HIV/AIDS, Malaria, and STI Prevention.

Covid

During the Covid pandemic, we provided information, masks and hand-washing stations.

Women’s issues

With partner organizations, we provide education on preventing gender-based violence, promoting women’s health, and period information, supplies, and support.

Preparation for the Future

Mentorship

We bring our youth together with Sports, Business, and Entrepreneur Mentors.

Guidance and Advice from successful people in all walks of life enrich the lives and dreams of our participants. We host international interns and guests.

For example, a crew of ten from Iceland working on a documentary offered advice to our Performing Arts Group about film production and provided business ideas that might help boost our ability to fund projects and become more self-reliant.

Some of our older youth participated in a five-day Entrepreneurship and Business Skills workshop sponsored by US AID. The workshop provided introductory business skills, insights in how to create and sustain a business, and encouragement to take the next steps to develop their ideas into viable business plans.

The MYRC recently hosted the directors of Africa Safari Discovery, which conducts tours in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, and Dubai to hear about opportunities in the growing tourism industry from successful entrepreneurs in the field. The company also made a substantial donation of new football uniforms!

Non-Violence Communication Skills

Founded soon after a devastating outbreak of post-election violence, the MYRC has focused since its inception on teaching how to communicate without resorting to violence. This is done through everyday activities and specific teaching workshops.

Gender Equality

The MYRC was founded on the principle of gender equality. We provide opportunities for women and girls as we do for men and boys. We also teach the importance of each person’s worth through workshops and leadership.

Education Support

Knowing that education is key to the future of our young people and our country, we work hard to ensure that all our participants can stay in school and have the needed shoes, clothes, books, transport, and fees for full participation.
