Performing Arts
We have a wide variety of performing and fine arts equipment. Skilled mentoring is often available and many projects are created to showcase talent. Some of our youth have gone on to professional careers in music and film-making. Arts projects have included: Audio Recording, Video Production, Music, Drama, Dance, Film, Graphic Arts, and Photography.
Music
Recently, a DJ from Dallas, Texas donated a new professional digital mixing board to support our Performing Arts Program. Our recording studio has helped a number of musicians launch their professional careers. The new equipment, which enables a DJ to plug in their computer or device and mix, fade, sample, and manipulate the sound, has been put to good use by our aspiring artists. It has been a terrific addition to our studio.

Film
Many of our young women and men have had a taste of film production through the activities of MYRC alum Ramsey B. Our young people have been involved in filming three seasons of the miniseries Anita under Ramsey’s direction. His career was recently the subject of a feature article in the daily newspaper, The Nation. Under the headline “Offering hope to young filmmakers,” journalist Ondari Ogega shows how Ramsey has gone from MYRC, to the Segele Film School, to the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) masterclass training, to the creation of Naweza Film.
The Kenya Film Classification Board has also been instrumental in bringing experts to help train the growing number of film students.
A group of MYRC’s young filmmakers had the opportunity to meet with Ghana film and TV actor Peter Richie, whose career credits date to 2014. He discussed the ins and outs of film production and some of the various ways to become involved in the industry. Meeting with a working professional and having the opportunity to ask questions and get real-life answers gives our youth a stronger sense that, with hard work and good luck they too might be able to find a place for themselves in film.
