Manyattta United!
The MYRC fields a full range of Ladies’ and Men’s teams starting with youngsters under age 12 (U12). As skills are built, our youth progress to teams that compete with others both locally and regionally.
Our Young Adult Men were the national champions of the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom tournament in 2019. The same year, our Ladies Team came in Runner-up in the Regionals, and one of our women was included on the Chapa Dimba All Stars.
Many of our players have gone on to have professional and semi-pro careers in Kenya and beyond. Players we trained from a young age have gone on to play for the National Super League Nairobi City Stars and the Kenyan Premier League teams Tusker, Thika United, and Sony Sugar. Another of our players has spent time in Spain training with Real Betis and Seville.
One of our women, who came up through our program and had been playing on our U-20 women’s team as a goal keeper, was signed by Vihiga Queens FC, Kenyan Women’s Premier League champions. This team went on to represent Kenya in international play.
Visitors from Britain, Wales, Denmark, and Norway, and local Kenya organizations and businesses such as Tackle Africa and Kiwasco, have donated much needed team gear.
Some of our young women players have received secondary school scholarships based on their football skills.
Our successful teams and players have attracted the attention of those who wish to help our players do even better. We hosted coaches and a multi-day skills workshop put on for us by Coach Jamie Fullarton, the management Board of Arkworth School in Yorkshire, England, and James Muiruri of Two Rivers. The Clinic was one of a kind, very high energy, and the youths who participated learned so much, not only skills and techniques, but teamwork. It’s these sorts of trainings that have helped bring our teams to such a high level of play and led so many of our players to be able to pursue a professional career in football. Our coaches have learned so much from these sorts of workshops over the years.
